On writing

It wasn’t a deliberate hiatus from this little blog. Work wasn’t that stressful as it had been for the past eight months. I had plenty of time on hands to sit down and write on the mundane things in life which are as vast as the sky. Perhaps, the vastness of the mundanes overwhelmed me to write, you’d think. Or I was unplugging from the internet. Neither of it. I chose not to write.

There were some mornings when I got out of the bed and thought to myself, ‘I will start writing today.’ Then like this August weather, my mind would change and I would find myself lost in the sea of activities only to come home tired after a long day.

Other times, inspiration would strike me while in the shower or when out on a stroll. I’d immediately write it down for consumption at a later time. Later, I’d sit down to work on the idea on my PC, but to be lost for an hour or two in the internet black hole. Exhausted, I’d shut down and sleep.

I thought, “Hell, what’s happening to me? Is it a creative block?”

There were too many thoughts and ideas running on in my head. The thoughts were fogged-out landscape from which occasional memories appear like isolated trees, in an almost broken panorama.

Like in Stephen King’s words, I was approaching the ‘act of writing with nervousness, excitement, hopefulness, or even despair – the sense that you can never completely put on the page what’s in your mind and heart.’

The sense of nervousness and excitement from too many thoughts stopped me from writing altogether.

This morning, I put off the TV, carried my PC to the living room where the light is good and where my adored stack of books lies to give me strong vibes. I sat down on the couch and started writing with cups of coffee to pull me through the whole process.

Usually, I write on my desk in the bedroom where I have the pastel wall as complete front view and the jungle view to the right from my window. But from my living room, I have the view of a small set of my neighbor’s kitchen garden where tall maize plants have overgrown and I can see the quaint neighborhood. The change in the writing space was the perfect vibes for me.

How’s your writing process like? Do you have a favorite place to write or you write where you can?

Dear February

Dear feburary, February, why do I always get your spelling wrong?

Do you know that you’re the perfect calendar month? I like to think that this makes you sexy and perfect.

O that February face of yours! So full of frost, of storm and cloudiness.

Early in the mornings when I pull the curtain to let the light in, the dewy mist you have left on my window glass the previous night makes me so lazy to get up that I leave the curtains hanging there and snuggle back to my warm duvet.

The crispness in the air has decreased a lot now. Plenty of your sunny days indicate that spring is almost here.

The warmth in the air has resurrected my plants. They have started to breathe and I can see few leaves popping up already. Does that mean that spring is right around the corner? Definitely it is. Just the thought of it soothes my heart.

There is something very intimate about you, O February! I will miss the long cold nights when I can snuggle in bed and read away the night. I will miss those rosy cheeks you give us in the cold. I will miss wearing boots and scarves. I will miss writing to you on a lazy Sunday afternoon listening to sweet emotion on the radio. Sigh! We humans are never satisfied.

But one thing. I shall cherish you while you are here. Please be good.

Random Ramblings

It was just yesterday when I went down south to my village and wrote about it in this post. That was the beginning of a new month.

And today, it’s already the end of May. Gosh! How did May flash by this fast?

Whoooossh! It came. And went the same way.

It’s true that time cannot be recovered after it’s gone.

For that matter, I cannot recover this very moment. This moment where I sat down to write this post plopping into my mouth the juicy plums I bought from the Paro-Thimphu highway yesterday.

Sometimes I want to freeze those memories. Memories that are worth remembering. Because remembering it brings fondness to the heart and a smile to the face. And I freeze that in the form of pictures and blog posts. That way I can always remember the immortality of those memories.

What was I doing last year at this time of the year? The only highlight of May '13 is the time I was anticipating about the Denmark trip. Other than that nothing fascinating was up on the month of May.

May '14. I’m where I was. The same old me. Except a year older, wiser and matured. Did time stop for me? Haha I wish so.

The only change in me is my hairstyle. In 11 years time of growing out my hair, this angled bob hairstyle is the shortest I’ve had.
Other than that I haven’t changed a bit.

I’m surprised. Blown out.
And of course proud of myself.
Because people change.
Things change.

It’s even more surprising when the people you have always taken for granted change overnight. Even if people and things change and they leave, life does not stop for anybody.
So here I plod on into the month of June.

How was your May month?
