On writing

It wasn’t a deliberate hiatus from this little blog. Work wasn’t that stressful as it had been for the past eight months. I had plenty of time on hands to sit down and write on the mundane things in life which are as vast as the sky. Perhaps, the vastness of the mundanes overwhelmed me to write, you’d think. Or I was unplugging from the internet. Neither of it. I chose not to write.

There were some mornings when I got out of the bed and thought to myself, ‘I will start writing today.’ Then like this August weather, my mind would change and I would find myself lost in the sea of activities only to come home tired after a long day.

Other times, inspiration would strike me while in the shower or when out on a stroll. I’d immediately write it down for consumption at a later time. Later, I’d sit down to work on the idea on my PC, but to be lost for an hour or two in the internet black hole. Exhausted, I’d shut down and sleep.

I thought, “Hell, what’s happening to me? Is it a creative block?”

There were too many thoughts and ideas running on in my head. The thoughts were fogged-out landscape from which occasional memories appear like isolated trees, in an almost broken panorama.

Like in Stephen King’s words, I was approaching the ‘act of writing with nervousness, excitement, hopefulness, or even despair – the sense that you can never completely put on the page what’s in your mind and heart.’

The sense of nervousness and excitement from too many thoughts stopped me from writing altogether.

This morning, I put off the TV, carried my PC to the living room where the light is good and where my adored stack of books lies to give me strong vibes. I sat down on the couch and started writing with cups of coffee to pull me through the whole process.

Usually, I write on my desk in the bedroom where I have the pastel wall as complete front view and the jungle view to the right from my window. But from my living room, I have the view of a small set of my neighbor’s kitchen garden where tall maize plants have overgrown and I can see the quaint neighborhood. The change in the writing space was the perfect vibes for me.

How’s your writing process like? Do you have a favorite place to write or you write where you can?

20 blog post ideas for the uninspired

Things on this blog has been pretty quiet lately. Work has really kept me on toes, even on weekends, I've been working, gosh! I feel so burned out.

I've been going through a lot of emotional stress lately, sometimes it gets out of hand. So where's the time and energy for the creative juices to flow? Things may be the same for some of you. As I always say, "writing is the best therapy," it helped me definitely to de stress myself in this post. It helped me remain sane and positive.

Sometimes I run out of blog post ideas. Blog writer's block? Errr....yes! Isn't it insane to keep your crap going on in this internet?
Anyhoo, here are 20 blog post ideas to keep your creative juice flowing or to tackle your writer's block if you've been like me:

1. Review a book/product/film: Share your honest opinion to your readers. This is one of my favorites.

2. Day in the life: Write about a day in your life. From the moment you open your eyes in the morning till the time your head hit the pillow, write about it. Document it. And yeah don't forget to add photos.

3. Make a tutorial: If you're good at something, share it with your readers which would help them.

4. Start a blog series like I did in this 100 things I ❤ series.

5. Create a bucket list or a list of something.

6. Share a recent travel story.

7. Interview someone.

8. Write about your favorite blog/blogger.

9. Revisit your old blog post with the maximum view count and write a follow up post to it.

10. Get away from the computer, away from the phone and take a stroll outside. Get inspiration from the nature to write.

11. People watch, one of my favorite activity. Write about the humans of your place/city.

12. Write about a DIY project.

13.Write a letter to your 16 year old self. What advice would you give? Or a letter to someone or to some place.

14. Your week in photos. Instagram could be the best and the easiest app to help you on this.

15. Show what's in your bag. People like to get nosy and want to have a peek inside your bag. You can have a peek inside my bag here.

16. List down 10 things that makes you happy and share it. It's a joy in itself.

17. Blogging dos or don't s.

18. Be a tourist in your own city and let the readers know about places to visit the next time they are in your city. I trust bloggers reviews more than the city maps/guides.

The Happiness pill

What is the first thought that comes to your mind as soon as you open your eyes in the morning? Do you think of the things that you will do to make you happy? Well, I don’t! Mornings are the worst part of my day. First thing, I struggle to get out of the cozy bed. Since winter is approaching, it will become even more terrible for me to start my day :(. Then comes the part of scurrying to office with meetings to attend, minutes to be followed up and deadlines to be met. So where is the time to think about things that will make me happy? Grrr...
Today's post by Cheeky Pink Tulip here had me rather thinking and instead of leaving a comment I decided to create a list of things that will make me happy seriously. :). This way I can think and write on stuffs that will make me happy. Since it’s a Sunday post, I shall focus on things that will make me happy on a SUNDAY.

Going to the church: A Sunday spent without going to the church means a Sunday wasted for me. Throughout the week, God’s grace and mercy keeps us protected in good health. So I believe in thanking Him for His grace and mercy by offering him prayers of gratitude worshiping Him.

Writing: Nothing is much more important than writing when the inspiration strike. As soon as I read this post on her blog the sudden inspiration to write hit me and therefore this post. So this post is ‘spur of the moment’ post. A deep sense of satisfaction overwhelms me after doing a blog post. I am sure all you bloggers also feel the same. Those of you who constantly update their blog must be achieving satisfaction now and then which I am so envious of lol. I hardly update this space :(. I have promised myself that I will at least write once a month, and if you notice there is at least 1 post every month hehe.

Reading: I am one hell of a lazy bone. I can’t sit straight while reading a book. So I lie down most of the time. That way I go to bed with a book and sleep with the book as well. My idea of reading a book is to be inside warm covers in the bed with a good cup of hot coffee. This way nothing can take away my pleasure of reading.

Exercising: Yes, exercising makes me immensely happy. I have been a huge fan of Pop Pilates of Cassey Ho, know her more here. I have downloaded almost all her vids yet the lazy spirit inside me overtakes it. I bought a new yoga mat also for inspiration yet I have been too darn lazy. But I make a point to do exercise on weekends and I seriously need to do more of it.

Taking a walk: Booming construction in Thimphu especially around the place where I live has made it inconvenient to talk a walk around. While in college we used to take long walks almost every day back then. There was one particular lecturer, an Indian guy who used to take brisk morning walks every morning. Rain or shine, he would be up for walk with ear piece of his iPod plugged in his ears. I wish I could remain dedicated like him for more happiness :P.

A clean room: I have this obsession for things to remain in its place in order. So my weekend is basically spent on cleaning and arranging my closets and drawers. That’s why I hardly have time to hang out with friends and family. But an orderly room gives me so much joy.

Tit-a-bit example lol
Tit-a-bit:  I could not think of any other title for this description so the name tit-a-bit. From manicure to waxing my feet and using face mask or peel off, all these things I love to do on a Sunday like today.

So these are the pills to my happiness. If I could do all these in a day, what more can I ever ask for? Happiness is subjective. It varies from individual to individual. Since great things come in small packages, my ultimatum to happiness would mean doing these small things.
What is your pill to happiness? Did you ever ask yourself? If not, please do it immediately.

All good things come to an end, thus this Sunday. It has come to an end. I had a blissful Sunday, hope you had the same. So a happy week to all lovely readers!

Writing a Diary

Do you maintain a diary? Or did u ever maintain one? Well, I used to do since high schools until college. Now I do not remember when was the last I ever wrote because I have completely lost the habit. It is said that writing diaries and maintaining one is a good habit. Perhaps I have turned from a good to a bad kid now because I do not write though I claim writing to be a passion of mine.

My earliest memory of writing a diary was at the age of 13 when I was away at boarding school. There were several factors that attributed to my habit of writing a diary. A young girl just into her teens and away from home was one significant factor that made me to pour out my feelings to someone when homesick and penning down those feelings in something I considered somebody (diary) was the only solace I had then.

Moreover, I was shy as a kid and opening up was my greatest fear. So whatever I wanted to speak up and felt about somebody was always penned down. Basically, my pages of the diary used to be about what I did the whole day, who I met, how I felt and some feelings of the crushes I used to have. :)

Interestingly, The Diary of Anne Frank is highly acknowledged for the quality of her writing. Her diary has become one of the world's most widely read books, and has been the basis for several plays and films. Call it a coincidence; Anne Frank also started writing her diary on her 13th birthday. Here is an excerpt from her diary.

Wednesday, 5 April 1944:

“I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death! And that’s why I’m so grateful to God for having given me this gift, which I can use to develop myself and to express all that’s inside me!
When I write I can shake off all my cares. My sorrow disappears, my spirits are revived! But, and that’s a big question, will I ever be able to write something great, will I ever become a journalist or a writer?”
That is so true. Writing means immortality. Even after your death, your writing will live and the world will remember you just as we do for Anne Frank today. For two years since 6 July 1942 till 4 August 1944, Anne records about everything in her diary. The people they have lived within the secret annex for two goddamn years, completely shut out from the outside world are so immaculately described that it’s like you have lived with them in the hiding all those years.
The Diary of Anne Frank was published posthumously, when Otto Frank, Anne Frank’s father survived the war and found his daughter’s memoirs in her diary. Knowing that Anne always wanted to become a writer, he edited the diary by giving pseudonyms and sent it for publication. It was positively received and became a huge success. Anne Frank, a 13 year old girl’s dream of living even after her death has come to live. So will be yours and mine as long as we keep on writing and blogging. Someday, my grand child would be able to access this blog hopefully and see the world through the eyes of mine some generations back. That’s how I hope to overrule immortality lol.
Some good years back, I encouraged someone special in my life to write and he wrote vigorously in his diary since then. Few of my New Year gifts to him used to be a diary.  Hopefully, he blossomed into a prolific writer now. And I am glad about it today. And I am sure that he has not left that gift of writing his diary unlike me:(.
So what are you thinking then? Tell me about your earliest memory of writing if you have one, it need not necessarily be writing a diary.
